When thinking about the Texas Longhorn's upset by UCLA 34-12 last Saturday, comedian Fred Willard's oft repeated "Wha' happened?" from the move "Best In Show" comes to mind.
The Bruins took advantage of a fumbled punt, an interception and penalties that kept their drives going, thus embarrassing Texas in front of its home crowd.
A friend of mine, who's a stand-up comic, had a gig in Austin that night. Not the best time or place to be doing that. He said the audience was definitely not happy, but hey, a gig's a gig.
This weekend the Longhorns get their Red River rival Oklahoma, who's the only non-SEC team in the Houlgate Rankings top 5. Oklahoma, barely survived Cincinnati and has had problems with Utah State and Air Force.
Houlgate No. 1, Florida travels to Tuscaloosa to meet the BCS and AP's top seed Alabama. This game may prove to be a turning point for the Houlgate rankings, provided, the winner finishes the season undefeated.
Rounding out the Houlgate top 5: Auburn takes on Louisiana-Monroe while LSU hosts Tennessee this Saturday.
USC and Arizona appear to have overshadowed Pac-10 favorites Oregon and Stanford, both claiming 6th and 7th places. USC head coach Lane Kiffin will face off with his former colleagues, Steve Sarkissian and Nick Holt, who coach the Washington Huskies. Expect this to be Kiffin's biggest test of the season so far. Arizona has the weekend off, before taking on the Oregon State Beavers on Oct. 9.
